About Laura Larson
Laura Larson attended the University of Nebraska at Omaha from 1986 to 1990. She was a member of the Lady Mavericks basketball team and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in psychology in 1990. Larson proudly served on the Omaha Fire Department for 13? years. She began her career with the department in 2000 and was promoted to Fire Captain in 2008, after placing first on the Captain Promotional Test. Her permanent assignment was with Engine 56. She also served as an instructor for the Omaha Fire Academy Class of 2012.
Larson passed away March 9, 2014 after a battle with ovarian cancer. It is believed her cancer was caused by her exposure to carcinogens while on the job, so her death is recognized as a line of duty death. In September 2014, her name was added to the International Association of Fallen Fighters Memorial in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
