Dr. George H. Payne, II Medical Humanities Scholarship

The George H. Payne II, MD, Medical Humanities Scholarship fund was established by his mother, Peggy Payne, in 2018.

The fund provides one or more scholarships to students who are enrolled in UNO’s College of Arts & Sciences. The Payne Scholarship awards an amount to provide maximum impact to fund an awardee’s academic need.

Eligible students will be pursuing a degree in the UNO Medical Humanities program—either the Minor or Major in Medical Humanities. Additional preference may be given to students who are pursuing a major in the Department of Foreign Languages and Literature in UNO’s College of Arts & Sciences, specifically those students who are pursuing a major in French or Spanish.

The scholarship may be renewed so long as recipients remain in good academic standing and continue to meet the criteria listed above.

In addition to completing the General Scholarship Application, students applying for the Payne Scholarship are asked to supply a CV or Resume and a short narrative (500 words or less) responding to these questions:
1. How will the scholarship help you to successfully complete your undergraduate degree in medical humanities?
2. How will you use your education in medical humanities and language studies at UNO in your life, career, and/or community?
