Dr. George H. Payne, II Medical Humanities Scholarship-RENEWAL APPLICATION

*This is the application for previous recipients to apply for renewal of the scholarship. *

The George H. Payne II, MD, Medical Humanities Scholarship fund was established by his mother, Peggy Payne, in 2018.

The fund provides one or more scholarships to students who are enrolled in UNO’s College of Arts & Sciences. The Payne Scholarship awards an amount to provide maximum impact to fund an awardee’s academic need.

Eligible students will be pursuing a degree in the UNO Medical Humanities program—either the Minor or Major in Medical Humanities. Additional preference may be given to students who are pursuing a major in the Department of Foreign Languages and Literature in UNO’s College of Arts & Sciences, specifically those students who are pursuing a major in French or Spanish.

The scholarship may be renewed so long as recipients remain in good academic standing and continue to meet the criteria listed above.

Students seeking a renewal of the Payne scholarship are asked to submit a CV or Resume with brief narrative (500 words or less) responding to these questions:
1. How has the Payne scholarship helped you move towards your goals over the past year?
2. How would its continuation impact the coming year?
3. In your response, please include information on:
• Progress toward your degree
• Your experience with medical humanities and language learning
• Your participation in “giving back” to the Medical Humanities program and the World Languages & Literature department.
